The Process
Here is what you can expect once you join the program, and what we do to help ensure meaningful and safe connection. In addition, this is coupled with student conduct reports from the university.
1. intake forms
These help us understand the key attributes of all student and family participants, and give us a foundation for successful matching.
2. Family vetting
Every family requires a background check, two references, and a family letter about who you are and your motives for your participation in this program.
3. Training
This helps equip you and the students with guardrails and best practices to help you both maximize the sponsor family experience.
4. Smart Matching
Our smart matching algorithm considers general interests, matching preferences, and deal breakers to provide the best possible match while keeping program integrity.
Matching you with the right student is our priority, and we aim for your match to last throughout their collegiate career. However, if in the rare case a switch is needed, we’re committed to finding you a new student to sponsor.
The Cost
Sponsor families pay a non-refundable $50 application fee covering background checks and program management. In the rare event of a student switch, there is no additional charge. Every fourth year, a $50 renewal fee is charged for a new background check as part of our safety protocols.
